Request for Applications (RFA)

MEPI regularly announces funding opportunities based on specific themes – such as independent media, civil society, and women’s empowerment – for non-governmental organizations, professional associations, universities, and other civil society groups in the Middle East and North Africa.  The Request for Application (RFA) is an open competition for proposals to carry out national or regional projects that focus on a priority area of reform addressed by MEPI.  Grants vary in amount, from the Rapid Response category (usually $200,000 to $900,000) to larger, multi-year, often multi-million dollar Flagship Grants.

The most recent RFA sought proposals for the development, implementation, management, and oversight of programs to advance the professionalism and sustainability of independent media in the Middle East and North Africa, with emphasis on local media capacity.  The independent Media RFA is the latest in a series of MEPI funded programs designed through results-oriented programs, experience the benefits of political freedom, more open economies, and greater educational opportunities.  The previous RFA awarded grants to organizations working support the role of civil society advancing reform throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
