Egyptian Association for Developing and Disseminating Legal Awareness

Supporting Democratic Awareness – this program strengthens the internal democracy within political parties by targeting young political party leaders (age 25-35) primarily through training and follow-up consultations, and also through ongoing meetings between party leadership and the trainees.  The Association will offer assistance to all 18 political parties in Egypt.

Egyptian Association for Supporting Democracy

Youth Advocacy Strengthening – this program is designed to equip 500 young civic leaders (18-35 year old) with political and advocacy skills, drawing on members of political parties, trade and student unions, and youth clubs, through targeted training workshops, development, and dissemination of civic education materials.

Ibn Khaldoun Center (IKC)

Egypt Political and Electoral Rights – In addition to supporting the Political and Electoral Rights (PEER) program, IKC will is working to publish a civil society newsletter, produce and distribute two annual reports (one on the status of civil society and democracy, the second on the status ethnic minorities), and complete the English translation of books on reformative Islam that will lead to a series of regional conferences.

National Democratic Institute (NDI)

Election Coverage Training for Egyptian Journalists – the objective of this training program for Egyptian journalists was twofold: 1) to enhance the professional skills of the participating journalists in election reporting; and 2) to enhance the participating journalists’ understanding of democracy and electoral processes in the United States.  

New Horizon Association for Social Development (NHASD)

Leadership and Advocacy Skills Development NHASD will work with youth in Old Cairo to equip them with the civic education, leadership, and advocacy skills to affect change in their local communities, through training, followed by the design and implementation of small advocacy projects.

United Group (UG)

Political Party Strengthening – UG is training mid-level political party leaders (under the age of 45) to equip a new generation of party leadership.  Through MEPI support, Egyptian lawyers were trained in electoral law and regulations so they could work as effective monitors in the November 2005 elections.
